BTS’ V has just disclosed his inaugural project since completing his military service, a fresh solo single dubbed ‘FRI(END)S.’ This R&B-infused track, dropped on Friday (March 15), showcases V’s lyrical prowess entirely in English. It comes as a follow-up to his September 2023 EP ‘Layover,’ which he released just before starting his mandatory enlistment in the South Korean military alongside his fellow bandmates RM, Jimin, Jung Kook, Jin, J-Hope, and Suga.

BTS’ V had previously disclosed his plans to share several projects during his hiatus, expressing his sentiments in a December statement, where he mentioned having “prepared a lot of things” for the 18-month period. He conveyed his sadness at being unable to create new memories with his ARMY (BTS ARMY) during this time, stating, “It’s the hardest not to see the ARMY.” Nevertheless, he assured fans, saying, “I’ll be back!”

The announcement for ‘FRI(END)S’ surfaced on V’s social media platforms on March 3, accompanied by a series of concept photos and teaser videos. Described as a pop-soul R&B track, the song encapsulates relatable and witty romantic themes in its lyrics, as per a statement from Big Hit Music.

Moreover, the single’s artwork, revealed alongside the announcement, features the song title and release date set against a vibrant pink backdrop, hinting at the track’s sweet and melodic vibe. As a solo artist, V has already secured three entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His highest peak so far was in 2023 with ‘Slow Dancing,’ which debuted at No. 51.
