In a significant multiyear agreement, SiriusXM has successfully acquired exclusive rights to the widely popular podcast SmartLess, hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. The deal, valued at over $100 million, grants SiriusXM exclusive content from SmartLess for its subscribers, including early access to new episodes and several other SmartLess Media podcasts such as Just Jack & Will, Bad Dates, and Owned. Additionally, the majority of the extensive SmartLess library will become accessible solely through it.
The collaboration is set to commence in late summer, marking a strategic move for both parties. SmartLess initially launched in July 2020, and its exclusive rights were previously held by Amazon’s Wondery in a three-year deal starting June 2021. The podcast has consistently ranked among the top 10 globally on Chartable, featuring high-profile guests like President Joe Biden, Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Greta Gerwig, Idris Elba, Pedro Pascal, and Selena Gomez. The production team behind SmartLess includes Michael Grant Terry, Bennett Barbakow, and Rob Amjärv.
SiriusXM Exclusive Rights from the Deal
As part of the deal, SiriusXM gains exclusive global ad sales rights for SmartLess and select SmartLess Media shows, further solidifying its position in the podcasting landscape. Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer of SiriusXM, expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “At SiriusXM, we are proud to be home to the stars, and with Jason, Sean, and Will joining us, that statement has never been more true.” Greenstein highlighted the organization’s commitment to podcasting and the growth potential it brings to established podcasts like SmartLess.
The agreement, brokered by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), underscores the evolving landscape of podcasting and the increasing value placed on exclusive content in the industry. As SmartLess transitions to SiriusXM, fans can anticipate a continuation of the podcast’s unique style and engaging content, now with the added benefits of exclusive access and events for its subscribers.
