Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon Confirm Progress on 'Big Little Lies' Season 3

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon shared exciting news for fans of the hit series “Big Little Lies.” The dynamic duo revealed that they are in active discussions about the direction for a potential third season and that progress is being made swiftly.

Excitement Among the Cast

The conversation between the actresses highlighted their enthusiasm for the project. “I get the ring ring: ‘Hey, is [season 3] happening?’ Like Nic,” Witherspoon remarked to Kidman, reflecting the anticipation among their fellow cast members. Kidman echoed the sentiment, “I got excited.” Witherspoon added with a laugh, “It’s OK, baby. I get excited too. Then I’ve got Laura [Dern] calling me and Zoe [Kravitz] and Shailene [Woodley]. They’re all like, ‘Nic said that we’re making Big Little Lies season three?’”

Kidman then confirmed the rumors, saying, “But we are now! We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty] is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape.”

The No-BS Rule in Hollywood

However, Nicole Kidman and Witherspoon both acknowledged the pitfalls of discussing projects prematurely. Kidman humorously noted the need to “shut up” about plans until they come to fruition to avoid the “dopamine hit” of merely talking about doing something. Witherspoon agreed, sharing her mantra: “Well, I have a rule. It’s called, ‘Don’t be full of shit.’ It’s called ‘The No-BS Rule in Hollywood,’ because how many people tell you they’re doing X, Y, Z, X, Y, Z? It’s like, ‘I don’t want to talk about it until I’m standing in the costume on the set.’”

A Story Rich in Depth

In an interview with Elle, Kidman further elaborated on the process of developing a third season. Following the second season’s release in 2019, the team needed time to carefully consider the next chapters of the characters’ lives. “There’s the richness of the storylines, which we’d always discussed, but it needed time because there’s actual unbelievable depth to the next chapter of these women’s lives and their children’s lives — because children grow up, and that’s kind of fascinating,” she said.

A Tight-Knit Cast

The camaraderie among the cast, which includes Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz, plays a crucial role in making another season possible. Kidman emphasized that their close-knit bond makes scheduling and working together easier. “I think when you’re all scattered and never sort of cross paths, it’s very, very different,” she explained. “But when you’re all still very intertwined, that’s what makes it doable, because there’s a willingness, and you want to spend time together.”

A Legacy of Success

Based on Liane Moriarty’s best-seller and created by producer David E. Kelley, “Big Little Lies” premiered in 2017 and quickly became a critical and commercial success. The series won eight Emmys, including Best Limited Series, and captivated audiences with its compelling storytelling and stellar performances.

As fans eagerly await confirmation and details of the new season, it’s clear that the passion and dedication of the cast and crew remain as strong as ever. With Liane Moriarty’s new book on the horizon and the creative team moving “fast and furious,” the prospect of revisiting the world of “Big Little Lies” is tantalizingly close.
