Bridgit Mendler, once known for her roles on Disney Channel, has embarked on a new venture that has surprised many of her fans. The 31-year-old actress announced via X, formerly Twitter, that she will be taking on the role of CEO at Northwood Space, a startup with a unique goal: establishing a “data highway between earth and space.”
In her announcement, Bridgit Mendler expressed enthusiasm for the challenge ahead, stating, “We are designing shared ground infrastructure from first principles to expand access to space. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but that’s the fun part.”

The startup has already secured a substantial $6.3 million in funding, as revealed in Mendler’s tweet. However, what truly caught fans off guard was Mendler’s revelation that she is now a mother to a 4-year-old boy. In a subsequent tweet, she shared the heartwarming news of her journey into motherhood, explaining that she began fostering in 2021 and officially adopted her son around Christmas of 2022.
Bridgit Mendler’s Unconventional Path to Success
Despite this being the first time Mendler has publicly discussed her role as a mother, she previously disclosed her passion for space law during her time at the Federal Communications Commission’s Space Bureau. In an interview with CNBC, she explained, “Space is getting easier along so many different dimensions, but still, the actual exercise of sending data to and from space is difficult. You have difficulty finding an access point for contacting your satellite.”
Bridgit Mendler’s educational background includes studies at prestigious institutions such as the University of Southern California, MIT, and Harvard, as indicated on her LinkedIn profile. The concept for Northwood Space came to fruition during the COVID-19 pandemic while Mendler was spending time with her family in New Hampshire. Instead of partaking in the popular trend of baking sourdough bread, Mendler and her family were busy building antennas out of materials from Home Depot and receiving data from NOAA satellites.
Her husband, Griffin Cleverly, whom she married in October 2019, will also be part of the startup as the chief technology officer. Reflecting on their wedding in an interview with Extra, Mendler described it as magical, with a picturesque sunset and even a stranger building a sandcastle in the background.
In addition to her acting career, Bridgit Mendler has found success in music, releasing her debut album “Hello My Name Is…” in 2012 and the EP “Nemesis” in 2016. Now, with her new role as CEO of a space startup, Mendler continues to diversify her impressive portfolio, proving that in her own words, “Expect the Unexpected.”
