Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, known for portraying Mrs. Roshan Sodhi in TMKOC ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,’ has recently won a legal battle against the show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. After a 15-year term on the show, Bansiwal took a stand against the alleged mental and sexual harassment she endured, leading to her resignation. Last year, she filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Modi, Sohil Ramani, and Jatin Ramani.
Recent reports indicate that Bansiwal’s determination has paid off as she has been declared the winner of the case. Asit Modi has been held accountable for his actions and has been directed to compensate Bansiwal with a total sum of Rs 25 lakh, encompassing both her unpaid dues from the show and damages for the harassment.
In addition to accusing Asit Kumarr Modi, Bansiwal had also leveled allegations against the project head, Sohail Ramani, and executive producer, Jatin Bajaj, citing their disrespectful behavior towards her. Asit Modi has been found guilty under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act of 2013, as per reports from ETimes.
TMKOC Asit Modi Ordered to Pay Bansiwal Compensation
The verdict mandates Modi to fulfill Bansiwal’s rightful dues along with additional compensation for intentionally withholding her payments, totaling approximately Rs 25-30 lakh. Furthermore, he has been instructed to pay an extra Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the harassment. However, no disciplinary action has been taken against Sohil and Jatin, as they were not implicated in the verdict.
TMKOC Jennifer Expressed Her Sentiments On The Verdict
Reacting to the outcome, Jennifer Bansiwal expressed her sentiments, emphasizing that while the recognition of her harassment is validating, she feels justice remains incomplete. Despite Modi’s guilt, the absence of punishment for him and the exclusion of Sohil Ramani and Jatin Bajaj from accountability leave her dissatisfied. She highlights the modest compensation sought, suggesting it might trivialize the severity of the offenses and set a concerning precedent. Bansiwal also lamented the lack of cooperation from police authorities in advancing her case, despite her persistent efforts over nearly ten months since filing the FIR.
Jennifer Called Out TMKOC Makers
In July last year, Jennifer talked about how bad things were on the TMKOC ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah‘ set. In an interview with Hindustan Times in 2023, she said, “The people in charge didn’t wash our clothes, so we had to wear the same outfit for 20 days in a row. Since we worked long hours, the clothes got smelly. Sometimes, we had to wash them ourselves… The toilets were usually dirty too.’ She also mentioned, ‘Getting basic things like water was tough for the cast. There were only a few bottles available on set.”
