Deepti Sharma Reflects On Future Goals

Expressing her satisfaction with her performance, Deepti Sharma remarked, “I’ve played to my strengths throughout this tournament, adapting my game to the demands of each situation. Prior to the competition, I dedicated myself to refining my off-side shots through rigorous drills, and I’m delighted with the progress I’ve made. Unlike last season, where opportunities to bat were limited, this season saw me occupy a higher position in the batting order, allowing me to make significant contributions to the team’s success in critical moments. I aim to sustain this level of performance in the future.”

Meanwhile, in the highly anticipated title clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC), it was RCB who emerged victorious, clinching their maiden Women’s Premier League (WPL) title with a resounding eight-wicket win over DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

DC, opting to bat first after winning the toss, got off to a flying start with openers Shafali Varma and skipper Meg Lanning forging a brisk 64-run partnership. However, a remarkable bowling performance from RCB’s Shreyanka Patil (4/12), Sophie Molineux (3/20), and Asha Sobhana (2/14) orchestrated a dramatic collapse, bundling out DC for a modest total of 113 in 18.3 overs.

In pursuit of 114 runs for victory, RCB encountered some resistance from the DC bowlers, but a composed inning from skipper Smriti Mandhana (31) and an unbeaten knock from Ellyse Perry (35*) ensured RCB crossed the finish line with three balls to spare, sealing their historic triumph.

Sophie Molineux’s stellar all-round display earned her the ‘Player of the Match’ accolade, capping off a memorable outing for RCB in the WPL 2024 finale.
