In the first Despicable Me movie in seven years, Gru, the supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League agent, returns with his Minions in Illumination’s Despicable Me 4. Following the success of the 2022 summer blockbuster, Minions: The Rise of Gru, which raked in nearly $1 billion worldwide, the animated franchise embarks on a new adventure.
The Despicable Me 4 narrative takes a familial twist as Gru (Steve Carell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig), along with their daughters Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan), welcome a mischievous new addition to the Gru family Gru Jr., determined to give his father a run for his money.

This time around, Gru faces a formidable adversary in the form of Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his seductive partner Valentina (Sofia Vergara), forcing the entire family to go on the run. The film introduces a host of new characters voiced by Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman, adding fresh dimensions to the beloved franchise.
Pierre Coffin reprises his role as the iconic voice of the Minions, while Steve Coogan returns as Silas Ramsbottom. Directed by Chris Renaud, co-creator of the Minions and known for his work on Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets, Despicable Me 4 is produced by Illumination’s founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri, alongside Brett Hoffman, executive producer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Co-director Patrick Delage, recognized for his role as the animation director for Sing 2 and The Secret Life of Pets 2, brings his expertise to the project. The screenplay is crafted by Mike White, the creator of White Lotus, and Ken Daurio, a seasoned writer with a long-standing association with the Despicable Me franchise. As the minions embark on yet another adventure, fans can anticipate a delightful blend of humor, heart, and the signature mischief that has defined this beloved animated series.
