Lulu: No Talking Until Noon, It's True!
Lulu: No Talking Until Noon, It's True!

Lulu, known for her loquaciousness, is often seen adorned with a designer phone case around her neck, ready for a chat at any moment. In fact, just before our interview, Sir Elton John had FaceTimed her on the very device. Little did we know, however, that she has a surprising rule: she doesn’t utter a word before 12 noon.

“I understand if you think I’m pulling your leg,” she chuckles, “but it’s true. I’m quite disciplined about it.”

This peculiar habit stems from her rigorous “on tour” routine. Before midday on show days, Lulu adheres to a strict silence, preserving her vocal instrument for the performance ahead.

“I make a point not to emerge from my room until noon. It helps me take care of my voice and ensures I can give my best during the show,” she explains.

After gracing the stage for seven decades, Lulu is preparing for her final tour this Saturday. It marks exactly 60 years since Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie transformed into Lulu and released her debut single, “Shout,” propelling her from a Glasgow tenement to the top of the charts.

An Unforgettable Farewell: Lulu’s Last Tour

Few careers have been as defined by a single word as Lulu’s by that powerful “Weh-yeh-yeh-ell-ay-oh-ah-ellll” in “Shout.” Now, as she gears up for her farewell tour, reminiscing about her journey in the music industry, she reflects on the unexpected twists and turns of her remarkable career.

“It’s surreal to think that at 15 if someone had told me I’d be embarking on a farewell tour at 75, I’d have laughed it off,” she admits. “But here I am.”

The upcoming tour, aptly titled “Champagne for Lulu,” is set to be a celebration of her illustrious career, featuring all her iconic hits and special appearances from friends and collaborators.

Reflecting on her enduring legacy, Lulu recounts her milestones, from winning Eurovision with “Boom Bang-a-Bang” to recording a James Bond theme song, making her mark in music history. She fondly recalls collaborations with legends like David Bowie, cherishing the moments that shaped her artistic journey.

Beyond her musical endeavors, Lulu delves into the deeper lessons she’s learned from fame and success. Drawing from her decades-long exploration of meditation and spiritual wisdom, she emphasizes the importance of cultivating an inner life amidst the external trappings of fame.

“Aspiring for fame alone is not the answer,” she reflects. “True fulfillment comes from nurturing your inner self and finding gratitude for life’s blessings, even in the face of adversity.”

As she embarks on her final tour, she looks ahead to new horizons, expressing her desire to explore acting further and fulfill her longstanding dream of duetting with Rod Stewart.
