Kate Garraway is set to make a poignant return to her television role next week after laying her husband, Derek Draper, to rest on Friday. ITV has officially confirmed that the presenter will participate in a live interview on Good Morning Britain on Monday, during which she will open up about Draper’s final weeks and the details of his funeral ceremony.

Following the interview, Kate Garraway will resume her hosting duties on Thursday, rejoining Ben Shephard on the show. The renowned broadcaster had been on a hiatus since early December when Draper suffered a cardiac arrest.

The Sun reports that although Kate Garraway is tentatively scheduled to return full-time, ITV has extended the option for her to take time off as needed. The network is expected to tease her comeback tonight.

Derek Draper, a former political adviser and author, battled severe complications from Covid, stemming from his contraction of the virus in March 2020. Kate Garraway chronicled his struggle in ITV documentaries, illustrating the daily care he required.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Kate Garraway paid tribute to her “darling husband Derek” after he passed away on January 3. The private funeral service, held at a church in North London, was attended by Garraway, flanked by her children, along with prominent figures such as Sir Elton John, Sir Tony Blair, and former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan.

Derek Draper, originally from Chorley in Lancashire, had a noteworthy career as a Labour Party lobbyist before leaving politics in 1998 due to his involvement in the “lobbygate” scandal. He later retrained as a psychotherapist and became an author, contributing regularly to magazines and newspapers on psychotherapy topics. Draper founded the LabourList website in 2009, an independent news platform supportive of the Labour Party.

Draper and Garraway, who tied the knot in 2005, share two children. As she prepares to re-enter the public eye, Garraway’s return to Good Morning Britain marks a significant step forward after the challenging chapter she faced during her husband’s prolonged illness and eventual passing.
