In a recent interview on the Post Credit Podcast, acclaimed director Matthew Vaughn expressed his deep-rooted desire to helm a Superman film, with none other than Henry Cavill donning the iconic cape once again. Vaughn, known for his work on Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, revealed his fascination with the Superman: Red Son comic book series written by his friend Mark Millar during the discussion.

Superman: Red Son, an Elseworld tale, explores an alternate reality where Kal-El, instead of being raised in the United States, grows up in the Soviet Union. Vaughn found the storyline particularly intriguing, emphasizing its increased relevance in the current global landscape. The director highlighted the importance of understanding different perspectives, alluding to the impact of ignorance on contemporary issues.

“I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history,” Vaughn explained. He then proposed the idea of reimagining Red Son as a film, with Henry Cavill reprising his role as a variant of the Man of Steel character.

The notion of Cavill playing a Soviet Superman adds an intriguing layer to the superhero’s narrative, providing an opportunity for exploration beyond the conventional Superman stories. Vaughn mused, “Wow, could you imagine remaking Red Son with Henry Cavill? That would be an interesting movie…”
