The awards ceremony took an unexpected turn when Emma Stone, the recipient of the Best Actress Oscar for her role in ‘Poor Things,’ faced a wardrobe malfunction just moments before stepping onto the stage to accept her trophy.
As she made her way to receive the Academy Award, Stone seemed to mouth, ‘My dress is broken.’ Once onstage, she began her acceptance speech by addressing the wardrobe mishap, attributing it to a broken zipper or seam on her Louis Vuitton gown.
Explaining that the incident occurred during Ryan Gosling’s performance of his song from the ‘Barbie’ movie, Stone humorously remarked on her involvement in the dance moves. She expressed admiration for Gosling’s performance, admitting to being enthralled by it.
In a backstage interview, Emma Stone described how the wardrobe team managed to fix her dress, expressing gratitude for their assistance. Earlier, she had stunned on the red carpet in a custom Vuitton ensemble styled by Petra Flannery.
Emma Stone’s Oscar Triumph
This marks Stone’s second Oscar win, following her previous victory for ‘La La Land’ in 2017, a film in which she also starred alongside Gosling. Coincidentally, they shared the stage during Gosling’s performance at this year’s ceremony.
Competing in the Best Actress category were Lily Gladstone, Annette Bening, Carey Mulligan, and Sandra Hüller. Stone’s fashion mishap adds her to the list of celebrities experiencing wardrobe malfunctions at the Oscars, alongside Charlize Theron, Jenny Slate, and the infamous Jennifer Lawrence, who was present at the ceremony.
Stone was escorted off-stage by Lawrence and other former winners following her acceptance speech.
