Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied Have Officially Divorced Following a Quiet Separation Last Year
In a discreet manner, Natalie Portman initiated divorce proceedings from her husband of 11 years, director and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, eight months ago. Now, the former couple has concluded their divorce.
The 42-year-old actress filed for divorce last July, and the process was finalized last month in France, where Portman and Millepied, 46, reside with their children, 12-year-old son Aleph and 7-year-old daughter Amalia.
Portman has been facing the challenges of their low-profile separation, which came after reports surfaced in May 2023 of an extramarital affair involving Millepied.
“It was initially really tough for her, but her friends rallied around her and helped get her through the worst of it,” source revealed.
“Natalie is emerging from a really tough and painful year, but she’s emerged stronger and is finding joy in her family, friends, and work.”
Throughout this period, the couple has prioritized their children’s well-being, often appearing together as a united family in public over the past year.
“Her biggest priority has been ensuring a smooth transition for her children,” the insider said. “She and Ben really love their kids and are equally focused on being the best co-parents they can be. Nothing is more important.”
Despite signs indicating issues in the marriage, such as Natalie Portman not wearing her wedding ring since last spring, the couple took time to privately address their challenges and strive for a “new normal.”

In June 2023, a source informed that Millepied was “doing all he can to get Natalie to forgive him and keep their family together,” while Portman’s “biggest priority is protecting her children and their privacy.”
Both Portman and Millepied have continued to manage substantial work commitments. Millepied is working as the choreographer for “Dune: Part Two,” while Portman has been involved in various projects, including promoting her critically acclaimed performance in “May December” and shooting the film “Fountain of Youth.”
Portman has also been actively engaged in her soccer team, Angel City, and is preparing for her upcoming project, the limited TV series “Lady in the Lake.”
Although Portman supported Millepied at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of “Carmen” in September 2022, she walked the red carpet alone in May 2023 for the Los Angeles premiere of her HBO docuseries “Angel City” and at the Cannes Film Festival, where she presented “May December” alongside co-star Julianne Moore.
Both Millepied and Portman have maintained their privacy regarding their marriage amid public speculation. In a Vanity Fair interview in February, Portman refrained from addressing the rumors, stating, “It’s terrible, and I have no desire to contribute to it.”
Their marriage, which began on August 4, 2012, after meeting on the set of “Black Swan,” didn’t unfold as Portman had hoped. However, the couple is now focused on their next phase.
“Natalie hoped her marriage would be forever,” said the friend. “But she is at peace with where they are and now focused on their new normal as a family.”
