Rajinikanth’s character Moideen Bhai confidently strides onto the screen in the official Lal Salaam trailer, released by Sun TV on Monday, embodying the essence of communal harmony and imparting a lesson to those exploiting the system for personal gain.

Directed by Aishwarya, Rajinikanth’s daughter, the film talks about sensitive topics such as communal unrest and the Hindu-Muslim divide, depicting the struggles of a troubled cricketer. This marks Aishwarya’s return to the director’s chair after an eight-year hiatus since her last film, Vai Raja Vai.

The Lal Salaam trailer, spanning two minutes and twenty-seven seconds, introduces Vishnu Vishal as the lead, portraying a Muslim character with a tumultuous past. Battling alcoholism and prone to violence, his character becomes a catalyst for riots. However, encouraged by a priest who recognises his inherent goodness, Vishnu’s character turns to cricket as a path to redemption. Yet, amidst rising communal tensions, fairness eludes him, jeopardising his cricketing aspirations.

Amidst the turmoil, Rajinikanth makes a grand entrance in an extended cameo as Moideen Bhai, lamenting a few corrupt individuals’ manipulation of the justice system. Clad in a light brown bandh gala jacket and a karakul hat, Moideen Bhai endeavours to maintain peace among various religious communities.

In addition to Rajinikanth, former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev makes a cameo appearance in Lal Salaam, serving as an inspirational figure. The film’s musical score is crafted by A.R. Rahman, who expressed admiration for Rajinikanth and Aishwarya during the audio launch on January 26.

Originally slated for release during Pongal, Lal Salaam will now hit theatres on February 9. Produced by Lyca Productions, renowned for backing successful films like the Ponniyin Selvan series and Chandramukhi 2, Lal Salaam boasts a star-studded cast including Vikranth, Senthil, Jeevitha, Thambi Ramaiah, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, and Thangadurai.
