Netflix has launched its much-anticipated series, “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth,” despite legal hurdles. The documentary, which explores the infamous Sheena Bora murder case, hit the streaming platform following the Bombay High Court’s dismissal of a plea from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to halt its release.
The series offers an in-depth look into the mysterious disappearance and tragic demise of 25-year-old Sheena Bora. Originally slated for release on February 23, the documentary faced delays after the CBI voiced concerns that its broadcast might unduly influence ongoing legal proceedings.

The case revolves around allegations that Indrani Mukerjea, along with her former driver Shyamvar Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, conspired to strangle Bora to death in 2012. Bora, Mukerjea’s daughter from a previous relationship, was purportedly killed in a car before her body was disposed of in a forest in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
The murder remained undisclosed until Rai’s arrest in an unrelated case in 2015 when he confessed to his involvement. Subsequently, Indrani Mukerjea was apprehended and later released on bail in May 2022. Other key suspects, including Rai, Khanna, and Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s former spouse, are also out on bail.
Despite the CBI’s assertion that the documentary could sway public opinion and prejudice the legal process, the Bombay High Court ruled in favor of its release. In fact, the court itself viewed the series and found no grounds to support the CBI’s request for an injunction.
With the legal barriers cleared, viewers can now delve into the complexities of the Sheena Bora case through Netflix‘s latest offering, shedding light on one of India’s most sensational criminal trials.
