Dunki Box Office Collection Day 2: Shah Rukh Khan's Film Makes ₹20 Crores After Low Opening On Day 1.

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, Dunki, is facing challenges in drawing audiences to theatres. According to an early estimate on industry tracker source Sacnilk, the Dunki box office earned ₹20 crore on its second day, dropping from its ₹30 crore opening on the first day. The total collection for the film stands at ₹49.20 crore so far. The overall occupancy for Friday was reported at 31.22 percent in Hindi, with Mumbai and Chennai showing the highest occupancy among Indian cities.

Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is a comedy-drama centred around an illegal immigration technique called Dunki ‘donkey flight.’ The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover. Positioned as a tale of friendships, hardship, crossing borders, nostalgia for home, and light-hearted love, Dunki is the third and final release for Shah Rukh Khan in 2023. Despite high expectations, Dunki box office marks his lowest film opening of the year, and he struggles to make a mark with the audience.

While Dunki box office faces challenges in the domestic market, it has performed better overseas, earning ₹58 crore on its first day. Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s wife and co-producer of Dunki, shared the film’s global box office collection on social media, expressing gratitude for the love received worldwide. The film’s caption in Hindi translates to, “Came from a long distance… Now it seems that we will go a long distance, with your love…Watch #Dunki – In Cinemas Now!”

Dunki Box Office And Movie Review

Dunki comes with both drawbacks and highlights. It falls short of the cinematic magic I anticipated from the collaboration of Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani.

Despite presenting a fresh concept for the Indian audience, the film doesn’t deliver anything particularly remarkable regarding visuals or story. The film missed an opportunity to explore Dunki’s challenging illegal journey more extensively, which could have become a significant focus of the story. The effort to cram too much into the narrative ultimately failed to maintain audience engagement. Some moments shine with genuine humour, especially in the first half, and emotional scenes in the second elevate Dunki, but the overall momentum is not maintained.

Overall, it doesn’t rank among the best works of Hirani, but if you’re a die-hard SRK fan, there’s just about enough to make it a watchable choice for the weekend.
