Ilaiyaraaja's Daughter And Playback Singer Bhavatharini Dies Of Cancer

Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter and accomplished playback singer, Bhavatharini, passed away on January 25 after a courageous battle with liver cancer. She sought treatment in Sri Lanka, where she ultimately succumbed to the illness at approximately 5 pm. Her remains are scheduled to be brought back to Chennai on January 26 for the final rites. Singer survived by her husband, was 47 years old.

 

Bhavatharini Won National Film Award Best Female Playback Singer

Bhavatharini, the daughter of renowned music director Ilaiyaraaja and sister to Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja, had earned recognition for her talent. Notably, she received the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the Tamil song ‘Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu’ from the film ‘Bharathi.’

About Singer Bhavatharini’s Music Career

In her musical career, She marked her debut with the film ‘Raasaiya’ and went on to lend her voice to compositions by her father and brothers. Additionally, she contributed to works by composers Deva and Sirpy. In 2002, she ventured into music composition with the film ‘Mitr, My Friend,’ followed by ‘Phir Milenge’ and several other projects. Her last musical endeavour was the soundtrack for the Malayalam film ‘Maayanadhi.’ Her notable singing credits include songs in Tamil films such as ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai,’ ‘Azhagi,’ ‘Friends,’ ‘Paa,’ ‘Mankatha,’ and ‘Anegan,’ among others. The details of her funeral are still awaited.
