In a surprising turn of events, Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor finds himself at the centre of controversy as a complaint has been filed by Bombay High Court advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra. The advocates demand the registration of a case under various sections of the IPC, alleging that Kapoor and his family’s recent viral video has hurt religious sentiments.
The controversial video captures a peculiar celebration during the Kapoor family’s annual Christmas lunch in Mumbai. In the footage, liquor is poured over a cake, and Ranbir Kapoor proceeds to set it ablaze while exclaiming, ‘Jai Mata Di.’ The rest of the family members join in the chant, a phrase associated with Hindu religious practices.
The complaint contends that the use of intoxicants during the celebration of a festival from another religion, coupled with chanting religious phrases, deliberately insults Hindu religious sentiments. According to Hindu traditions, the fire god is invoked before other deities, making the act particularly offensive to some.
Despite the complaint, the police have not yet registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the matter. The advocates claim that the video has been crafted and circulated with the intention of insulting the religious sentiments of the complainants.

Interestingly, on the same day as the controversial video surfaced, Ranbir Kapoor and his wife, Alia Bhatt, took the internet by storm by sharing the first glimpses of their daughter, Raha Kapoor. While the controversy brews, it’s worth noting that Ranbir Kapoor recently starred in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s blockbuster ‘Animal,’ alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri. The film, exploring the complexities of a father-son relationship with intense action sequences, has garnered an impressive domestic box office collection of Rs 540 crore.
