Paramount’s ‘Bob Marley One Love’ has been surpassing expectations effortlessly since its debut on Valentine’s Day, and its trajectory over the long Presidents Day weekend remains unpredictable, buoyed by a glowing A CinemaScore.
Preliminary figures indicate that the Paramount production ‘Bob Marley One Love’ is poised to secure a six-day domestic opening of $46.2 million, with $28.3 million amassed during the three-day weekend, a notable figure that rivals the debuts of similar musical biopics like ‘Rocketman’ or ‘Elvis.’ The film is significantly outperforming initial projections.
Meanwhile, Sony’s ‘Madame Web’ is projected to achieve a six-day opening of $24 million, marking one of the lowest openings for a film featuring a Marvel character. However, it’s worth noting that the Dakota Johnson-led film isn’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘Bob Marley One Love’ Vs ‘Madame Web’ Box Office
‘Bob Marley One Love’ premiered opposite ‘Madame Web’ on Wednesday, strategically capitalizing on Valentine’s Day before the extended Presidents Day weekend. The Bob Marley One Love biopic set a new record, earning $14 million from 3,536 theaters, making it the highest midweek opener ever for Valentine’s Day, according to the studio. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by 2012’s ‘The Vow’ ($11.5 million). Impressively, despite mixed reviews, audiences are embracing ‘One Love,’ with the biopic garnering an additional $3.9 million on Thursday, bringing its two-day domestic total to $17.9 million.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, ‘One Love’ portrays the legendary Jamaican musician and Rastafarian, starring Kingsley Ben-Adir. The film follows Marley during the creation of his 1977 album ‘Exodus’ and subsequent years, including an assassination attempt and his belief in music’s healing power during the post-colonial era. Among the movie’s producers are Marley’s children Ziggy and Cedella, along with his wife, Rita.
People saying #MadameWeb is one of the worst movies of all time need to relax. It’s literally not even the worst movie of this year.

It’s not a good movie, but it isn’t an abomination to cinema. Calm down, Twitter. pic.twitter.com/BqHcV4fb2N
The biopic is attracting a diverse audience, with Black moviegoers comprising 40 percent of Friday’s ticket buyers, followed by Latinos (25 percent), Caucasians (23 percent), Asians (5 percent), and Native Americans/Other (7 percent), according to PostTrak. Female moviegoers make up 56 percent of the audience.
While in the past, superhero films were typically considered the safe bet for box office success, the landscape has shifted as both DC and Marvel Studios navigate various box office challenges. ‘Madame Web,’ led by a female protagonist, represents Sony’s entry into Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, following previous titles like ‘Venom’ and ‘Morbius.’ On Friday, females accounted for 44 percent of ticket buyers.
