Adan Canto, the accomplished Mexican-American actor, known for his transition from a successful music career in Mexico to a prominent figure in Hollywood, passed away on January 8 after a private battle with appendiceal cancer. Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, in 1981, and raised in Texas, Canto embarked on his journey at the age of 16 to pursue a career as a singer and guitarist in Mexico City.

Publicist Jennifer Allen informed The Associated Press that Adan Canto chose to keep his appendiceal cancer diagnosis private, and he succumbed to the illness. In a statement, Allen expressed, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”

Adan Canto Acting Career

Canto’s acting career began with appearances in local commercials and TV shows, leading to a significant role in Kevin Williamson’s 2013 Fox drama series, The Following. Subsequently, he was featured in notable series like Designated Survivor, working alongside Kiefer Sutherland for three seasons, as well as roles in Mixology and Blood & Oil.

In the last two years, Adan Canto played the role of gangster Arman Morales in The Cleaning Lady, opposite Élodie Yung. His debut U.S. acting role was in Fox’s The Following, and The Cleaning Lady, his final project, was also produced by Warner Bros. TV. Canto also portrayed Minister Lara in Netflix’s Narcos.

While starring as Armand Morales in Fox’s The Cleaning Lady during the filming of its third season, Canto, unfortunately, couldn’t continue due to health reasons. Despite this setback, the series plans to honour the late actor with a tribute card in the Season 3 premiere, expressing their deep sorrow over his passing.

Warner Bros Television and Fox Entertainment jointly released a statement, expressing their grief and admiration for Canto’s talent, range, depth, and vulnerability. Kiefer Sutherland, Canto’s Designated Survivor co-star, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, emphasizing the actor’s impressive dedication and expressing sorrow for his family’s loss.

Adan Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and two children, Roman Alder, 3, and Eve Josephine, 18 months. Stephanie, mourning the loss on Instagram, shared a poignant picture with Canto and quoted Matthew 6:19-21 from the Bible, expressing her eternal love and anticipation of a reunion: “Forever my treasure, Adan. See you soon 💔.”
