In the scene, Cooper, in his second feature after A Star is Born (2018), conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in Gustav Mahler’s Resurrection melody. Shot at Ely Cathedral, where Bernstein had famously performed the symphony in 1973, the scene captures the essence of that historical moment with a live orchestra, a full choir, and a captivated audience.

To authentically depict this pivotal moment in Bernstein’s life and career, Cooper collaborated with music directors Gustavo Dudamel and Yannick Séguin from the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera, respectively, over several years.

Maestro, currently streaming on Netflix, received acclaim at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Lion award. Additionally, the film has secured four nods at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards, solidifying its status as a cinematic triumph.
