Beyoncé’s latest country track, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” has stormed onto Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, snagging the top spot, the magazine revealed on Tuesday. The song, which had stirred debates regarding the genre’s openness to her style, marks Beyoncé as only the second solo female artist alongside Taylor Swift to achieve this milestone without featured artists, according to Billboard.

Released on February 11th, coinciding with the Super Bowl, “Texas Hold ‘Em” quickly amassed significant numbers, raking in 19.2 million official streams, 4.8 million radio plays, and 39,000 units sold between its debut and February 15th. Impressively, it also claimed the second position on the Hot 100 chart.

Beyoncé’s current triumphs on the country charts shine a light on a genre historically dominated by white males. Over recent decades, women of color have been striving to carve a path for artists who share their backgrounds in the country music scene, which has deep roots in Black musical traditions.

In addition to “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé’s other country release, “16 Carriages,” made a notable impact, debuting at No. 9 on the Hot Country Songs chart and No. 38 on the Hot 100. Garnering 10.3 million streams, 90,000 radio plays, and 14,000 units sold, it further solidified Beyoncé’s presence in the country music sphere.
