The streaming giant has released an exclusive first-look teaser for its upcoming Ripley series starring Andrew Scott. Originally developed by Showtime and acquired by Netflix a year ago, the show is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling Tom Ripley novels. Andrew Scott, known as the “Hot Priest” from Fleabag, takes on the lead role as a grifter surviving in early 1960s New York. His character is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy and persuade his wandering son to return home. This decision propels Tom into a web of deceit, fraud, and murder.
Scheduled to premiere on April 4, the series boasts a stellar cast including Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn, and John Malkovich. Showtime collaborated with Endemol Shine North America, Entertainment 360, and Filmrights in co-producing the show.
Anticipate a riveting dose of profound darkness in Ripley, crafted by Hollywood screenwriting maestro Steven Zaillian, known for iconic works like Schindler’s List, The Irishman, Gangs of New York, and The Night Of.
