Music Maestro Ustaad Rashid Khan Battling Cancer Dies At 55.

Renowned music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on January 9 after a prolonged battle with cancer. The 55-year-old Padma Bhushan awardee had been undergoing treatment at a Kolkata hospital since November 22. His health had been deteriorating since a cerebral attack last year.

His body will be kept at Peerless Hospital in Kolkata until 6 pm and later moved to Peace Haven, Kolkata, to allow fans to pay their final respects. The final rites are scheduled for January 10.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Condolonces For Ustaad Rashid Khan

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, announcing that Ustad Rashid Khan would be accorded a gun salute as part of his last rites. His mortal remains will be placed at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata for people to pay their final tributes.

 

Ustad Rashid Khan, known for his soulful renditions, leaves behind a legacy of remarkable contributions to Indian classical music. His illustrious career earned him prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Beyond his own performances, Ustad Rashid Khan actively mentored and taught young talents, contributing to the preservation and propagation of Hindustani classical music. His recordings, live performances, and dedication to the art form solidify his place as one of the most distinguished vocalists in Indian classical music, leaving a rich legacy for future generations.

Ustad Rashid Khan, a prominent figure in the Rampur Saswan family, served classical music for over three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the world of music with his contributions to Bollywood and his unforgettable rendition of ‘Aaoge Jab Tum Sajana’ from Jab We Met.
