Renowned poet Farooq Nazki, known as the voice of India in the tumultuous Kashmir valley, has passed away in a Jammu hospital at the age of 82. Battling various health issues, including lung and kidney complications, for the past four years, Nazki breathed his last in Katra, where he had relocated to live with his son, a doctor at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. His demise occurred on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his daughters.

Born on February 14, 1940, in Maddar village, Bandipora district, Farooq Nazki’s life was marked by profound contributions to literature, broadcasting, and Kashmiri culture. Despite facing challenges, his journey from his humble beginnings to becoming the Director of Doordarshan and AIR Srinagar showcased his extraordinary trajectory.

Nazki’s legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. His eloquent poetry, capturing the essence of Kashmir’s beauty and anguish, earned him accolades, including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995.
