In a move that surprised few, Bollywood actor-turned-politician Govinda officially joined the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde in Mumbai, adding an extra layer of intrigue to Maharashtra’s political landscape.

Govinda, known for his lively screen presence, marked his return to politics by aligning with the ruling Shiv Sena, alongside Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde. This move comes after his previous electoral victory in the Virar constituency on a Congress ticket, where he triumphed over BJP heavyweight Ram Naik.

Govinda’s Political Journey

The actor’s political journey began in 2004 when he gained prominence by defeating Ram Naik in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat while representing the Congress party. Embraced by Eknath Shinde upon his Shiv Sena induction, The actor expressed his readiness to contribute to the realms of art and culture if given the opportunity.

Reflecting on his reentry into the political sphere after a “14-year-long ‘vanvas’ (exile),” Govinda commended the developmental strides witnessed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s leadership, vowing to channel similar progress for Maharashtra’s beautification and cultural advancement.

Sharing his sentiments, the actor turned politician credited the transformed landscape of Mumbai under Shinde’s stewardship, emphasizing his familial ties with Shiv Sena’s founder, Balasaheb Thackeray. The actor’s return to politics, despite earlier reservations, was described as a divine blessing during his formal induction into the party by Eknath Shinde.

Acknowledging Govinda’s entry into Shiv Sena, Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora reminisced about their longstanding association spanning 25 years. Deora highlighted Govinda’s genuine intentions to champion the cause of Mumbai’s creative industry and cultural heritage, underscoring his clean-hearted demeanor.
